9-year-old baseball pitcher disqualified for being too good

*Fox News is reporting that a Connecticut youth baseball team with a phenomenal 9-year-old pitcher has been disqualified because its team is too good. The team, Will Power Fitness, has an 8-0 record thanks in large part to pitcher Jericho Scott, the New Haven Register reports. His pitching is so fast and accurate, the Liga Juvenil De Baseball De New Haven asked the team's coach, Wilfred Vidro, to replace him so he wouldn't frighten other players.

This is another example of the sissification of America. How about teaching kids that when an obstacle looks daunting or even downright intimidating, you have to "bow up" your back and meet the challenge? C'mon, America!! This was a great lesson about how to overcome that was lost here.

I totally agree with you on this one. But here is what am curious about, having coached little league and Pop Warner, we would set the batting cage machine to 50 miles an hour for the 7 and 9 year old's for them to get adjusted to the speed of the ball. Some of them always wanted it faster. But even within three or four days (or less) there eyes would adjust and they would be making contact and start hitting it. So why the disbanding of the whole team because of one kid? Plus, even if this kid was pitching, he would only pitch for so long, maybe 50 throws and they would bring in someone else. So the other team would still have an opportunity to get some hits. Plus to, where were the fathers of the other team? I can't believe all the fathers of the other team would let this happen. Someone needs to grow some BALLS!

I agree. I blame the soccer moms.

I remember as a child that there was one award. lol Now there are 5th-7th place awards. Kids have to learn about failure, and success.

So what he throws hard for his age. But think about the kid that does get a hit of him. That kid will grow up believing in his own abilities.

He should be listed as overqualified, not disqualified. Disqualification makes it sound like a bad thing.

It is call competition. That is what sports is about. There will be people that will be better than you. Get over it that life. People need to teach their kids this when playing sport. The only way they get better is to step up their game and rise to the challenge. That is crazy. This reminds me of a similar situation regarding a girl in Oregon that had been playing in the boys leagues for 10 and under she had been play for a few years and they decided to kick her out of league because she was outplaying the boys and some parents felt she should not be allow to play against their little boys. WTF

What gets me is, why do they expect children to grow up and suddenly do what's right when their always done so wrong?

I guarantee you more "PARENTS" were the source of the complaints!

LOL @ blalming the soccer moms. OK, you need to elaborate on that a little more. What about the soccor dads, who teach their kids to start brawls whenever there is a questionable referee call??? I would blame the parents instead of assuming it was the women who made this complaint.

I agree with everything else in your posts (but that sexist comment shocked me).

I heard about this on the radio last week. How stupid! Kids are not equal anymore then adults. You have some smarter, more athletic, talented, better looking. This is the way of life.

And to hinder a child who has athletic talent is a crime. Look at Micheal Jordon. He did not make his basketball team the first time he tired out. But he practice hard and made his high school team the next year. If his high school let anyone on the team, where would he be today?

I can't believe ADULTS are thinking so immaturely about something like this.
Explains why America is the way it is right now, people aren't satisfied with anything, and now they complain about some kid (weather female or male) outdoing thier own.
