It is so hard to even think the pier might become only a memory. We have vacationed on Oak Island for last 25 years, and love every inch of it. Long Beach Pier is now a only a memory, sure hope that Yaupon Pier doesn't become just a memory. Hope the town council can come up with the money to save the pier and make it into something that the locals and the vaction crowd can enjoy and look forward to using.

If we lose the Yaupon Pier we will be losing much more than Wood and nails. We will be losing a piece of our Heritage and a piece of our life. It's a bad thing to see so many things that were enjoyed as a part of our youthful lives here in Oak Island being reduced to rubble and Memories. Sometime what we get in the name of progress is not worth the price we pay. People choose to relocate here and then begin to try and change our way of life and our way of doing things until soon, the very things that inspired people to come here are gone. Some of us are not imports but have been here our entire lives. The Yaupon pier and all of the activities surrounding it was a right of passage between childhood and adulthood for a lot of us and we cannot allow our birthright to be taken away by developers and greed. There are some things in this world that are worth more than money and in a community like Oak Island the pier is one of them. We have already seen too many places and things reduced to rubble and memories, and at some point of time Enough is Enough!

Lots of tourists and part-timers with a comment on this one. Fair enough, because we'll all end up paying for this (and other) nonsense.
Seems like old Larry was a big supporter of Johnny not so long ago (like last November!) What happened? Did mean old Johnny hurt your feelings?
Tired of paying for a forced development of what used to be a quiet little town?
Or just upset that you ain't one of Johnny's buddies getting a free ride on my back?
