Maybe I should start telling the hospitals and schools that I am an illegal so that I can get everything for free and the American taxpayer can foot the bill......nah, I'm too honest for that type of behavior.

and I think that I should be able to come into your home and take what I want, as long as im making a better life for me and my family. The reason they come isn’t the issue, why do you all refuse to listen or understand! They need to get in line, and do it legally like every other immigrant.

What the H$$$ kind of racist remark is “ignorant pot belly redneck”? do you really think wanting people to follow the law is ignorant? What we are trying to protect, is what creates the country that all these poor people are wanting to come to. If you loose that, the country goes down, and then ALL of us are poor. Why cant you people see this?

and vote for Obama if you want Socialism!!

If you've lived in SA your whole life, why do you need a hyphenated title? Aren't you an AMERICAN? Why must we continue to label ourselves as XXX-American, or YYY-American?

I don't get it.

I believe as hispanics born in the states or entering illegaly should learn english. But as the fastest and largest growing minority group thier culture and language is going ot effect the "American Culture" in good and bad ways. To simply say that we are americans is great but what kind of american are you? There are Irish, french, english, various hispanic americans, and other desendents that have melted together to form america.

Why certain groups give up their language?

I understand that when illegal alians come to the US they dont know english and have a hard time finding jobs and communication but we take every form of spanish away them wont they have a harder time understanding.

Instead of pushing these people way why cant we help them. Do away with discrimination and make more opportunities and give more help. Isnt discrimination really fear of change?

A little note, were the spanish and the mexicans here first. Didnt the Uited states government take land and other properties illegaly from these people to push american westward? When the descendents of mexicans that came under this new government whey were they labled as whites on the birth certificate if they are not treated like "american white people"?

I think that the most important shame for the hispanic people is the hispanics that do not see themselves as hispanics or hispanic americans. Instead of accepting who they are and unity to work on improving hispanic status in america (education, jobs, leadership roles), they simply negelect all of the racesim that hispanics have gone through and all of the improvments that have been obtained by various hispanic leaders in america.

i think that the most important shame for the american society is that there is still discrimination and separation. Slavery is ended, voting is obtain, and equal opportunity is still being improved but stereotypes and idiotic bias are alive.

One last thing many people may neglect their hispanic roots and other simply dont like hispanics but when it comes to eating Mexican foods, having fun at the fiestas, and when certain types of people needs help cleaning yards, houses (because they will not do it themselves and they have the money to pay some else), and when you go by the fast food services they are there.

Hispanics that are born in american or come to the united states are here to stay and the culture will influence the everyday life of america.

Immigration policy should not be decided on racial or ethnic grounds, or we will end up turning immigration into a tussle between the races.

Furthermore, whatever the benefits of ethnic or racial diversity, we are already one of the most diverse countries in the world. It is not clear we need more of it.(And besides, who decides how much is enough or too little diversity?)

Though we often hear the mantra "Diversity is our strength," polls show that Americans of all ethnic backgrounds are less than convinced.

Almost everyone agrees that balkanization—the deterioration of a population into warring ethnically defined political groups—would be a bad thing.

Yet, even a cursory glance around can not fail to impress upon the observer that, as our country becomes more diverse, it is also becoming more politically balkanized. "Identity politics" is increasing not decreasing. Yet we rush blindly ahead with no though for the long term consequences—the fatal flaw of democracies.

Why do we continue to pursue a policy that can only intensify this tendency to balkanization?

If you are discussing immigration with a friend, you are likely to hear him reflexively blurt out the gem: "this is a nation of immigrants." When he does, simply point out to him that eighty-five percent of the residents of the United States were born here.

How could that preponderance of homegrown Americans justify us being called a "nation of immigrants"?

Certainly we are descendants of immigrants (as is everyone in the world), but that is not the same thing as being an immigrant.

Anyway, such a statement is no justification for continued mass immigration. The inference that "We are a nation of immigrants and, therefore, we must not limit immigration" is a classic example of circular argument.

What is says is this: Because we are a nation of immigrants, we have to allow for massive immigration which, in turn, makes us a nation of immigrants. Hence its circularity.

Circular arguments are invalid in the logical sense by virtue of how they are structured and not what do they mean. They lead to faulty (and, therefore, useless) reasoning in which the thesis (the very thing which is to be proved) is used as a premise in its proof.

And circular arguments certainly do not form a good basis on which to formulate sound public policy.

I am married to an American of Mexican descent just as I am an American of Irish descent. I am not Irish-American and she is not Mexican-American or Hispanic-American. The ones quoted are predominately Mexican-American. Do you see what comes first in that name? Most illegal aliens from Mexico are in this category. Even some legal residents are in this category. Do you understand why they do not learn the our language and must hold signs in Spanish? Do you see why they carry the Mexican flag and wrap themselves in the colors of Mexico instead of the red, white and blue of the United States of America? Do you see why they insult us by re-writing our national anthem into Spanish? Do you see why they do not place value on education and learning OUR culture? Why do we need bilingual employees in schools, businesses and government here in the U. S. And why does bilingual ALWAYS mean Spanish speaking? I am bilingual, in Japanese, and everyone should be..... in some language. But there should not be a need in the U.S. to put up signs in Spanish, print notices in Spanish or print ballots in Spanish or in any other language. If they will not or cannot learn the language, they should not be voting, in my humble opinion. If they will not or cannot learn OUR culture, they should not come here. If they are here to work and go home, don’t bring the family. Don’t provide automatic citizenship to children born here unless at least one of the parents is a citizen. Not one of the illegal aliens should ever be allowed to become a citizen. No one should benefit from illegal acts.
With all do respect, sir I agree with you on just about everything except work.

I'm trilingual English, Spanish, and Porteguese. They only benefit of speaking three different languages is the fact that I get paid more to do so.

As long as the money is there to be made, then I'm on it, and I'm a fourth generation "American" with Mexican descent, so I did learn English in school, with Spanish and Porteguese being my secondary languages.

I agree that they should have to learn English, I mean common sense would tell you if you're going to visit another country, you'd learn it's language, or make an effort to. Some people are just lazy, I guess.

If you are a citizen of this great country then you are American. You should be proud of that fact.
I am an American of Irish decent, not an Irish-American. I gladly call myself American, that is what I am and I am proud to say it.
Illegals from mexico are mexican no other word needed.
Go home and come in legally or don't come at all.
I am tired of taking mexico's under educated people that demand so much in social services that real Americans are just expected to pay for with no questions asked.
You people who say the illegals have come here to stay I would suggest you take care of them your self. I say deportation is the answer.
I would hate to think about starting a new life in a new country and know the very first thing I am going to do in my new country is break their laws. What kind of person thinks like that?
Immigration laws used to say you had to be able to speak english to come here because they knew you had to speak english to assimilate, indeed the tests were in english but now you can claim a hardship, what ever that means, and get help taking the tests even in spanish.
These new illigal immigrants care nothing about assimilating but would rather go find a spanish speaking village somewhere and fly the Mexican flag while they fly the Stars and Stripes up side down.
What is wrong with that picture.
Go home you illegal ingrates from mexico and do it now.

My greatest concern is that individuals coming to this country should do it in a legal and ethical manner. I spent two years getting my wife's green card. It frankly annoys me when I hear that we should just turn a blind eye to the blatent disregard for our country's laws. People come to this country for a reason wether it be for a better life than what they had, more opportunity or they just liked what this country had to offer (Why try to change the country to be Mexico?). The language of commerce in the country has been American English for over 200 years, why shouldn't immigrants be required to learn it? We are allowing ourselves to be controlled by individuals who do not care enough about the country to obey its laws. I am supposed to be quiet and accept this or I am considered racist? To the discussion of "they" were here first... I would have to disagree unless they happen to be able to trace their roots directly to one of the civilizations that grew up in Central America (Oh by the way many of them were bred in with Spanish Conquistadors and other explorers does that mean that they should go and take over Spain?).

Not saying that we should not allow immigration. I am merely stating it should be done in accordance with the laws of the land otherwise you should be sent back... Illegal is still illegal regardless of how it is spun!
