Thank you both, Shoemaker and Dow, for your timely letters. It is foolish to demonize other systems, as the right so often does, when there are things we can learn from them. It is even more foolish to demonize those nations that are our friends. If Europe is doing better, we need to analyze why and see what we can learn from them. If we don't, we will continue to fall further behind..

6-06 letter LBPT 'Frontline' bias -Douglas DeConnick of Long Beach wrote, " I would just once like to see something positive come from this viewer-sponsored TV station (KCET).
Evidently, DeConnick has only viewed one program aired by the station, and it being political he did not agree with the opinion.

I SOOOO agree with the PE comments. Kids in high school are expected to take a ton of classes. Adding PE is not going to cure obesity. Our daughter is in Marching band and other advanced classes. I can assure you--marching band practice is way more excercise than any PE class I took in high school. Parents UNITE!!! Write your local school district, department of Educations (LACOE for LB) and CA Department of Education and protest this excessive addition of PE.!!!! Let parents be the ones to decide how to get their kids to excercise. Let's get this stupid new rule taken off the education books. I'm sure that students in dance classes also get tons of excercise--they don't need PE added. I'm a parent of two high school students and work in an educational environment.
