So, the plaza section of Long Beach has them to. I saw two of them, approximately, 3 months ago.....I thought they were so cute and they are HUGE! We ought to enjoy the animals that roam our neighborhoods, while we still have them.....

I so agree. Live in Belmont Heights and have a whole family living under the jacuzzi. They are big and beautiful. Love to watch them play from upstair window. Our dog and cat are in the house at night and that's when they come out. Makes me feel like I'm in the woods instead of a few blocks from Redondo Ave.

Warning to anyone! its not the raccoons that are a danger, if you are foolish enough to call Long Beach animal control the policy is to kill them instead of releasing them back into the wild. Go and google this fact if you do not believe it,

Keep your dogs and cats far away from raccoons. They will rip on them hard, if confronted. Raccoons fight like maniacs.

I'm in Bixby Knolls and we have a nice variety of nightlife here including rats, possums and coons. The coons are big, fat and healthy and appear to be very friendly however I don't trust 'em enough to let them get near me or mine.

Reson, To tell you the truth , neither do I. I live directly across the street from El Dorado Park and we have all of those to, plus skunks, squirrels, ducks, foxes and all kinds of other wildlife, that only seems to come out at night.....as a, thankfully recently former, third shifter, I've seen all kinds of animals that I have no name for or even knew could be found around here.....I have a huge window that I get to look out and enjoy the scenery and no outside animals to worry over.....

I watched a mama and 3 babies night before last frolicking and playing in the backyard of a house across the street in Belmont Shore and it was the cutest thing I've ever seen. Even took pictures and every time the camera would click they would stop and look and continue playing. So adorable to watch nature in action.

Yes but remember, never touch a wild animal no matter how cute and friendly they look. You don't know what kind of diseases they could carry and if one bites you, you could be in big trouble. I have a litter of opposum about the size of rats that wander around in my yard at night, they go after the cat food that I leave as a snack for Booger bear during the night. Though opposum too are the cutest things to look at when they are really small, even Booger bear knows to keep his distance from them.

Raccoons will not bother your dog or cat unless bothered first. We have raccoons in Glendale, and they co-exist peacefully with the feral cats. No problem. I have heard that if they are starving they will eat newborn kittens. But not your average dog or cat.

You are Correct, they do co-exist with cats. But any starving animal will take advantage of kittens.

I've got one who comes into the back yard each night, soon after it gets dark, and he chows down on the dry cat food I leave out for assorted visitors. Yep, they're huge, alright. But why does he have to wear that black mask? Maybe he watched some Lone Ranger reruns and got the idea from that.
