You can tell that Albert is not from San Pedro. Everyone raised in Peedro pronounces it that way. Even the spanish speaking people. It has been Peedro for at least 100 years. So get over it Albert you live in Redondo and you can pronounce it Paydro all you want. We folks from Peedro will always know that you aren't from our community. Thank you.

K. Thompson misses the point. The candidates were given an opportunity to present their positions in two separate interviews at the Saddleback Church. It was not a debate.
McCain's reply to the question at what point a baby is entitled to human rights can be considered simplistic, but it supports his record of pro-life stance. It won't win him votes from the pro-choice bloc. Obama, as a jurist touted for his intellectuality, must know that his position for abortion rights will not woo the evangelicals at the church. No need to flip-flop about it. Independent voters watching this interview were expecting an articulate and persuasive presentation of the premise for his pro-choice stance. Instead, we got a dud. |

Cyclists ignore street signs?
In theory, the signs for bicyclists along Palos Verdes Drive East might be a helpful thing; however, it is a waste of taxpayers' money. Really? Motorists, for the most part, completely disregard the signs that have been in place for years. On a daily basis, I personally observe motorists failing, or refusing, to stop at stop signs and abusing the rights of pedestrians using marked crosswalks. Don’t believe it? Try crossing 190th street at Anza Avenue north or south bound. There is an appearance of total disregard and respect for the California Vehicle Code as it applies to them. Thank you Dave Williams |

Stop your propaganda trash-talk! O'Bama is the guilty party here, for he had a non-sensical answer that made absoultely no sense whatsoever. He obviously didn't have a chance to have his spinmasters come up with a sound bite to spew out. And this guy wants to be President? After McCain wins the election and O'Bama fades out of memory, we'll be ok. You can count on it..

Its a good thing us dumb Pedro folks have people like Albert G. Erd to tell us the proper way to pronounce our town's name. While he's at it, he should phone the local TV stations. Apparently Paul Moyer, Marc Brown, and Christine Devine are just as dumb as we are, as the Peedro pronunciation has been the norm on local news for quite a few years.
Seriously, I'd love to see Mr. Erd walk into the San Pedro Brewing Company and order a Pehdro Punch. He's be thrown out onto his ass by a few longshoreman within seconds. |

many bicyclists, as well as those operating motor vehicles, frequently break traffic laws.
Which is worse on PVE - rude and arrogant bicyclists refusing to surrender the right of way to faster moving traffic, or slow, distracted, oblivious drivers lumbering along at reduced speeds, both impeding the reasonable flow of traffic? The REAL problem on PVE is that benighted road designers have a built a veritable road rage perfect storm, with narrow, winding, single lane roads, that feature NO passing lanes, NO turnouts, and NO enlightening signage directing slower drivers to allow faster moving traffic to pass. Pointing fingers at the users is pointless when the basic roadway situation is so hopelessly broken. Fix the glaring flaws in road design and the conflicts between bikes and cars will evaporate. |

The gentleman at the parade pronounced the town's name with a hard "D" sound, along with the "Pay" sound. Combining both into a very incorrect way of pronouncing the word.
Having only been associated with the area for 53+-years, I think I know a bit more about the correct pronounciations of the town I grew up in. I HIGHLY doubt that Mr. Erd would ever use the sound "Ray" when pronouncing the name of his city. There are fewer folks who would use the soft first "D" sound in "Redondo and they certainly would not use "Ray", but rather "Reee". If you are going to use the "Pay" sound for the first syllable in "Pedro", then you MUST use the soft "D" sound rolling into the "RO" sound. When you only use the first part correctly, but not the second, you appear to be the fool. Of course growing up I considered myself a "Peeedro" boy, whether anyone likes that pronounciation or not. I again invite anyone who wishes to practice with the locals the pronounciation of "San Pedro", please travel to Belize where that name is also used both ways, has even a higher population of Spanish speaking folks than is found in the great southern California San Pedro. Incedently, there is a "San Pedro High School" on the caye where San Pedro is located. If that school wishes to expand all they would need to do is add a SECOND building. Life must be easier in San Pedro, Belize, except for the occasional storms like the recent Fay. |

Councilman Tom Long is making excuses for why the city of Rancho Palos Verdes should not be held more accountable in the loss of a potential Trader Joe's at the Golden Cove Shopping Center.
Sometimes the good of the many outweigh the good of the few, even in view areas. If Mr. Long is so very concerned about views and view restoration, then he should take a long, long excursion to the east side of his city to see the view encroachments all around that area. Rancho Palos Verdes residents, on the south side of that city need more grocery shopping options. Traveling to Palos Verdes Estates and San Pedro provides more revenue for those two cities. The closest large grocery store to the corner of P.V. Drive West and Hawthorne, and still within Rancho Palos Verdes is the Ralph's Fresh Faire on Hawthorne. Mr. Long wants businesses to come to R.P.V. and so do I. But if the city can't get around view problems it ignores on the east side of that city, I think it only hurts the residents of that city and creates more loss of revenue the city really needs. |

Arguing over the trivial issue of how to pronounce Pedro makes me wonder when we will get back to arguing whether it's White Point or White's Point.

I'll bet if one compared the number of traffic citations issued to the number of auto and bicycle miles per year since 1950, one would find that our over paid law enforcement is writing a fraction of the tickets they used to write. Also if you looked at the number of stupid thing: laws, construction zones that go on forever with no one work, and badly designed streets, you'd find a large net increase. It is called "decadence" and its normal for decaying societies. |

It is interesting to note how often anonymity compels the ignorant to publicize their plight. Presumably, "Slug" thinks that tasking public servants to actually address the reality of traffic issues and spend the literal tons of taxpayer money lavished on them is somehow asking too much? |
You are all wrong! Life begins at the hop...boys and girls! |

The public sector always has tons of taxpayer money when somebody wants something they don't have to buy themselves. Passing lanes would require not only construction, but buying right of way that isn't available. Street signs telling slower traffic to stay to the right is redundant when the cyclists using those roads are all licensed drivers familiar with the driving laws of California. I don't know of a place where cyclists and drivers share the same road with complete tranquility. |
I think the real point here is -who voted for Rick Warren? We are now having presidential candiates interviewed by churches?! Pastor Warren is not the arbiter of who is worthy of the office of president and candidates should not have to go hat in hand to his ministry. Seperation of church and state anyone? |
|
Since you're a liberal, let me explain it in simple words. Warren sold 25,000,000 copies of his book, that gives him a fairly large following.(Compare that with Pelosi's few thousand copies sold.) The politicians, Obama & McCain were doing what politicians do: looking for groups of people to convince. McCain and The ONE signed up for the game, so why whine when one of them lost. It's not about "religion" its about "votes". And Warren has an excellent point: "religion is a world view just like any other world view". As a liberal, you just want to silence anyone who doesn't share your world view. |
|
L Ron Hubbard sold a lot of books, too. That doesn't mean I would have wanted him picking the president based on what the aliens in the volcano think. |

|
Obama is going to win in a landslide. Electorally it should be a slaughter. Just wait...

And this makes you happy? It scares me soo much when I see how the "enemy within" (which are the left), show us how they have so easily been dumbed down by our liberal media. Have any of you lefties ever paid attention in school? Learn your history before you open your (controlled) mouths! We need more leaders and all you are are easily manipulated followers. Now go get your panties wadded and prove me right with your pathetically stupid, expected outbursts of righteous anger...go ahead, I need a good laugh after all! |
