Would the author of this piece please point out where McCain has left "the high road". This looks to me like a fairly common screed in which Obama is questioned on some topic, reads a speech from a teleprompter and is hailed as conquering a near-insurmountable challenge.

And while I agree that Obama's middle name is a non-issue, I believe it is valid to point out that he did not place his hand on his heart during the national anthem since a person running for the highest office in the land should know to do this. Add to that the US Flag Code (UNITED STATES CODE, TITLE 36, CHAPTER 10, SECTION 171) says "During rendition of the national anthem when the flag is displayed, all present except those in uniform should stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart." Likewise, when practically every elected official is wearing a flag pin, it was fair to ask him why he wasn't wearing one.* Here comes a lesson in politics for some of you. He responded that it (the flag pin) has become a substitute for true patriotism since 9/11. But after beating Hillary in the primary, guess what? That "substitute for true patriotism since 9/11" is back on his lapel. I guess to Obama it is actually a symbol to be used (either not displayed or displayed) depending on the voters you are courting.

Well said, but as to Clark, he is a mindlessly devoted Clintonite who among other things fatuously described her as starting the Irish women's peace movement. Clinton’s website still urges people to "take it to Denver, etc."
Clark meant to sabotage Obama and return to the politics of personal destruction that are the Clintons only currency. Obama should stay far away from these people as should McCain.

Well said? The US flag code?

Two the two people above without a clue as to the real importance of America, our Constitution, and what really matters ...

Is that the opposite of what you were going to say, or just your instinct?

Stick with the opposite.

Hey, and as for this part of the US code:
US Flag Code (UNITED STATES CODE, TITLE 36, CHAPTER 10, SECTION 171). Do you know why they use the word "should"?

Because without it, this would be UNCONSTITUTIONAL. If you don't know what this means, please, look it up. You'll realize you should stick with the opposite.

Obama's patriotism flap is of is own making. He is the one who disdained wearing the flag pin and now not only wears it and had it on the stage behind him but attempts to wrap himself in the flag by bringing up the patriotism issue. Obama is the one who either didn't know or deliberately refused putting his hand over his heart for the Anthem. Obama is the one who said the flag wasn't necessary for a show of patriotism. And Obama is the one, in 40 plus years, who has never volunteered his service to his country -- not one of his causes -- in the military, the AmericaCorps, the Peace Corps or anything else. Frankly, I want a president who
believes in the good of this country and doesn't just bring up its negatives...incessantly.

The only two patriots that should return can't. They are both dead: Jefferson and Adams.

How is betraying your brothers in arms and betraying your country patriotic? How is crashing 5 navy jets patriotic? How is being married to a filthy rich drug addic patriotic? Is the republican idea of patriotism as simple as wearing a flag pin?

2.
3. 1. How did he betray his country?
Crashing jets happens. Talk to the mechanics.
Being married to ANYONE is fraught with difficulties.
4. A flag pin helps. Not wearing one is an insult!

1. He sang like a canary while a pow, his nickname was songbird. 2. If anyone else crashed one jet while training to be a jet pilot, they would have been booted out of flight school. 3. His 2nd wife "DID" steal drugs fron a charity. 4. Bush and the neo-cons made sure they wore flag pins, and held all their press conferences in front of waving flags, perhaps Obama was rebelling against this type of pro-war patriotism.
