Strike! Strike! Strike! That's a BIG S-T-R-I-K-E!!!!:)

What do the students have to lose? They aren't meeting AYP anyway! The teachers might as well try to improve their working conditions; nothing else has moved forward at CCSD except for continually diminishing academic scores tied to NCLB's nearly impossible achievement benchmarks as propagated by the NM Dpt of Ed.
It's getting JUICY!!!:):):) Byron Manning is the de-facto Superintendent b/c HE WHO CONTROLS THE $$$$ CONTROLS THE DISTRICT!!!! A new superintendent will have to pull in the reins on that, and that's why a new SUPE at CCSD has an uphill and possibly NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE BATTLE TO WIN as he or she takes the position. Seeing how politics dominates the district rather than the academic and extracurricular well being of the students. Pathetic!

NEA doesn't really help teachers. I don't know why they continue to sound like they are so important when some teachers have tried to get them to help. They're not worth it. Why do you need a union if they can't get stuff straightened up? The ones with the morale problems should leave if they're not happy. Afterall the teachers at CCSD make good money compared to other schools within the area.

What exactly are Byron Manning's credentials? Does he have any college degree even remotely related to education? We've had a hard time figuring out why he has so much power.

Can someone explain to me why CCSD seems to have nothing but drama?

It can't all be bad news, all the time... can it?

Manning, was duly elected by the voters of the
school district--however, he is out voted on
much issues--he is the only one on board who has
a interest in the kids.

Byron Manning wasn't elected by the voters - his brother was. Byron Manning was hired by the CCSD school board that his brother was elected to. Sounds like nepotism to me!

Get your Mannings straightened out--Byron Manning is not on the School Board--that's Randy Manning--Byron is employed by the school district to head up their financial operations.

Why don't the voters just vote out the mannings? From the looks of things and after reading several articles about CCSD seems the mannings are nothing but trouble makers, the kids who always want to get their way, if they have the interests of the kids at heart why do they have to eat crackers?

Manning BARELY won last time, has been on the board forever, too long, and never ever fixed the valedictorian deal. So much for supporting the kids eh? Also he attacks kids at the board meeting, the valedictorian from KCHS. So much for supporting the kids. Do not be fooled, he is not for the kids, his maybe, but not mine.

NEA helps everyone it can. This doesn't mean it can help everyone. It can't take back mistakes that get people fired.
FYI, teachers in CCSD now make the same, if not less, than teachers in other districts thanks to:
3-tier licensing
2% salary increase given to districts by state
CCSD is no longer a leader in pay by any means

I don't think NEA's purpose is to solve the problems of all the teachers. Teachers do have to take an active role in trying to resolve their issues, but, for systemic problems like the morale of a majority of the teachers, NEA can be a God-send. One of the reasons students in CCSD are not succeeding is the high turn-over rate of those teachers who have had enough. My son was looking forward to having a certain teacher this year at his elementary school. She left and I know the reason why because I talked to her all summer. Good teachers leave because they are tired of being under-valued as employees. If teachers have to join a union to make working conditions such that good teachers are enticed to STAY...I'm all for it. It's good for my son and it's good for other kids. You go NEA! Do what you gotta do!

Oh yes, he's really interested in the education of kids. That is, if they reside in his community, attend his church, and look like him. The other 90% of the CCSD students are sorely out of luck. If both Mannings were so interested in the education of students, why does CCSD continue to financially support a golf course in KIRTLAND. Especially, when the district is in serious financial debt. I guess it doesn't matter that money was taken away from student programs like the summer enrichment camp. No, CCSD still pays for a golf pro and all the extra employees and expenses at the Kirtland Public golf course. HMMM..could the Mannings be golfers?

As much as I don't support the Mannings, you need to remember that the golf course is in KIRTLAND because that's where it was developed by El Paso natural gas company. Can't very easily move a golf course! It was given to CCSD and SJC with the understanding that students from all over the district would benefit - way back when Bippus was superintendent.(SJC subsequently gave it's interest in the golf course to CCSD.) However, they never delivered on transportation issues, for students in Kirtland, Shiprock, and Newcomb/Naschitti. It's important for students to develop life-long recreational skills. Basketball isn't the only sport! If a child learns to play golf, he/she can benefit from that for years. At any rate, the golf course at least pulls in fees from those who golf which offset the salaries of the employees there. Too bad that CCSD employees aren't given a break on fees - as an encouragement to get some exercise.

Actually, the golf course is a million dollars in the red since CCSD took it over...
