MEDICAL RECORDS SHOW BOTH BROTHERS WERE SHOT IN THE TORSO FRONT NOT BACK. BOTH BROTHERS HAVE A HISTORY OF ATTACKING POLICE, AND THIS IS STRAIGHT FROM THE NAVAJO NATION POLICE DEPARTMENT OFFICERS.. GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT BEFORE YOU ASSUME BECAUSE AS THE SAYING GOES WHEN YOU ASSUME YOU MAKE AN **** OUT OF UME. I CAN WRITE THIS BECAUSE THIS IS TRUE I KNOW I HAVE SEEN THE MEDICAL RECORDS.. AND IF I HAVE SEEN THEM THEN I GUESS THAT MEANS I MUST HAVE AUTHORAZATION TO DO SO, SO MAYBE I KNOW A LITTLE MORE THAN YOU.
Are supposed to release the information on the medical records publicly? I thought medical records were private documents?

He should get a raise and promotion, he was attempting to stop a vehicle for ignoring a stop sign. When the idiot thought he could run back to the rez he found the penalty got too high this officer needs to start training the Farmington Police Department so next time there is a gun battle in the city they will be able to find their target and the liberal judges cannot pat the law breakers on the back of their hands. When liberalism does not stop crime then be assured force is a deterant!!!!!

I totally disagree. the man should be tried and imprisoned. His ineptness and arrogance in not waiting for backup cost a life. Running a stop light should not carry a death sentence. Also, why isn't the FBI investigating his shooting of a handcuffed person?

The lack of back-up did not cost a life. Running a stop light (stop sign) did not carry a death sentence. The decision on the part of 2 of the 3 men to attack and try to overpower a police officer is what got both shot, and one killed. Ineptness and arrogance on the part of the police officer who was doing his job of upholding the laws of our state; who was placed in a position where he was forced to defend his own life?! Arrogance and ineptness prompts an accusation like that. The FBI has investigated this. The officer was returned to full duty, which is appropriate. Because of the actions of the assailants, he had to use deady force to defend his own life from attackers that were using handcuffs as a weapon.

Did you know that the office lost radio communication with dispatch? So how is he going to wait for backup when he can't call for back up?

It is quotes like this that keep making this situation worse. If you truly are a father what would you say if your child was the officer in question and everyone was saying this against him or her? As I stated previously in this post, once the Officer turned his lights on he was committed to the situation. Did you want him to stop and let these individuals continue their reckless driving putting anyone in the area at risk? Did you want him to drive upon the crash and turn around to wait for backup? Did you want him to beg for mercy from the three men who were trying to hurt him? UNTIL BACK UP ARRIVED?
Get real! wake up! Move back into reality! This isnt your TIVO, or video game.
He was thrust into a situation that the three men escalated into someone loosing their life over. This is not the Officer's fault, he had to respond to the situation they forced upon him.
If you want to place blame, why not put it on who it belongs.
READ THE ENTIRE POST, there has even been a responce from NPD that stated these brothers were doing this on the Rez for some time. This time it backfired on them. I am sorry someone had to loose their life but it is not the fault of the Officer.
Shiprock Father, why dont you join the police force (they are badly shorthanded in Shiprock) and see what you would do in a similar situation. Would you live through it?
This man need the support of his community, he was forced to take a human life and now has to live with it for the rest of his life. Would you take the chance on killing or shooting someone, or loosing your own life for $18.00 an hour.
These Officers put their lives on the line everyday they go to work and make a poor wage to do it.
GIVE THEM SUPPORT

Maybe you had better go back and read the whole article of the situation before making these types of statements.

Not stopping won't get you shot. Fleeing and attacking an officer will though.

he is in a pursuit!!!!!!! Do you want him to do anything else while he is doing this? I think you need to get a reality check, and look at what goes on when an Officer is in this situation. Most of us can't even talk on a cell phone and drive normally.

You have got to be one of the biggest fools to comment on this. First as far as his approaching the vehicle after the crash is two-fold first to assess for injuries if any were sustained and to deem if they are serious to warrant medevac or ground ambulance. Why launch a medevac if not needed. Secondly to determine if they are armed or arming themselves.
If they are not injured or suffered minor injuries I for one would extract them from the vehicle and get them in custody. Who knows how long it would take for back up to arrive if they (other SP units) heard the traffic or until communications could be secured. As far as your liabilty comment goes many people are removed from vehicles if they have not suffered serious injuries. Also after a pursuit it's a tactical consideration separate and isolate.
The only sensible thing you have said is noby should have lost their life today and I know Rempe regrets taking a life. But put the blame where it lies. Blackhat for not yielding leading it to escalate to the shooting and the Dobey brothers for attacking Rempe. No example needs to be made of Rempe he acted accordingly and was tactically sound.
If infact you are an Iraqi vet thank you for your service. Additionally, if you are please post some of your ops and the actions you and your unit took. I am a combat vet serving in three conflicts with extensive MOUT training. You post them and let me critique the actions taken and see if you were tactically sound.
Based on your comments in several of your posts you sound like a REMF (if you need the acronym deciphered let me know) with NO combat experience.

No Body, It is called being "multi-tasked" we officers are trained to do that and you apparently can not chew gun and walk and that is understandable.

I take it that you are an Officer, what Department? How long have you been employed as an Officer?
I was commenting on the fact that someone would dare to question this whole incident on the fact that Officer Rempe didn't swap to another channel to give his pursuit information again (if he even knew they couldn't hear him). I don't know if you have ever been in a pursuit yet or not but there are alot of things going on.
And just for your information I can chew gum, walk and talk at the same time. I was making a point that this situation should have never taken place, and Officer Rempe shouldn't be put into this situation becasue his department made a bad decision when it changed to the Gallup Dispatch system. I even know of them having to (still happening) call other State Police Officers on their cell phone to have them go check to see if the other Officer is ok when on a call.
Guess as an Officer (if you are)I think you should know how much is going on, and how much you need to spend what free time you have on concentration, and watching the suspect to keep yourself safe not looking down to change the radio channel.

I have always been a supporter of the FPD (and have always stuck up for them on the forums), but as of last night, I can completely understand why the citizens talk the way they do about them. I witnessed something, and when the cops showed up, they laughed at the situation and told them they were wasting their time. As someone new to the area, I have never seen anything like that. The cops did nothing about it and everyone there was in shock! I am not trying to slam them on a forum, but I now take back the times I said they were just doing their job. From what I saw last night, the FPD are definately NOT doing their job, and you have to be as crooked as they are to have anything done about it!!!!

FPD, you should be ASHAMED of yourselves!!! You did NOT do your job and you DID NOT protect those people!! SHAME ON YOU!!!!
