This is our creed and those that passed and are missing lived it every day. I happen to know! I was stationed with them. I had the pleasure of knowing them, laughing with them and serving with them. God open those gates to heaven cause some of the finest are coming to you know.

CREED OF THE U. S. COAST GUARDSMAN
I am proud to be a United States Coast Guardsman.
I revere that long line of expert seamen who by their devotion to duty and sacrifice of self have made it possible for me to be a member of a service honored and respected, in peace and in war, throughout the world.
I never, by work or deed, will bring reproach upon the fair name of my service, nor permit others to do so unchallenged.
I will cheerfully and willingly obey all lawful orders.
I will always be on time to relieve, and shall endeavor to do more, rather than less, than my share.
I will always be at my station, alert and attending to my duties.
I shall, so far as I am able, bring to my seniors solutions, not problems.
I shall live joyously, but always with due regard for the rights and privileges of others.
I shall endeavor to be a model citizen in the community in which I live.
I shall sell life dearly to an enemy of my country, but give it freely to
rescue those in peril.
With God's help, I shall endeavor to be one of His noblest Works -
A UNITED STATES COASTGUARDSMAN.

I live in Holly, MI. Is this the red copter that usually flies around Honolulu or near Magic Island?

so sad that ignorance and hard hearts show up at times like this, my daughter is 7 months pregnant, a coastie wife, all she could do was text us at 4 in the morning to watch the news. knowing her husband may be involved in something, i have been holding my breath, i am personally overwhelmed with sadness, gratitude, and grief for these families, may the highest power be with them all, reality is..what has happened, not a fault finding mission, my compassion, love and prayers are with you all

God Bless the families, friends and co-workers of the victims. We should all take a moment to think of how lucky we are to have the brave men and women of the USCG serving us.

Dave Skimmin was a consumate waterman. Good surfer, and nice guy. He shaped boards and was always happy.
To Dave and his Helo crew:
Rest in peace,God Speed, Thank you for your service. Because of you, there are humans walking around today that would NOT be alive today if it were not for your guys past efforts.
God Bless,
Your friends,
The volunteers and staff

Even though I know you were just being an ignorant fool you can rest assured knowing that anytime the Coast Guard goes out they are wearing PFDs and survival equipment.

Rest in Peace.

That's an ignorant question.

You'd better pray that emergency service personnel are a lot more sympathetic to your plight on the day you need their help.

Without fail, the Coast Gaurd chopper always buzzes over me when I go fishing on the east side of Oahu. It's a reassuring sight to see them on patrol, looking for someone to help. My heart goes out to these hard working men and women.

Very tragic and sad about this unfortunate mishap. I wonder why a rescue vehicle which is used out @ sea isn't fitted for ocean landings? Maybe someone can enlighten us on the subject.
God's mercy on these brave people.

Did I miss something? The article said there were 4 crew members on board, and they rescued three survivors... it is still possible the fourth is alive? Why are all the comments along the lines of they all died? Is there an update or another story I missed?

My prayers are with the families and friends of these brave heros. Dan personally knew two of these men. He is at a loss for words. To the families: I cannot tell you that I understand because I have never lived it. I pray every night that I never have to. May God bless all of you in your time of need. I do hope Heaven is made of a huge beautiful ocean and these men are at peace.
To the people who made the totally inappropriate comments: You owe the Coast Guard and the families an apology. If YOU are ever the one out there in need, I hope you don't question the commitment and skill of your rescuers. These people train for a lifetime just to get the chance to save one life. If the life were yours or that of a loved one, there would be no questions asked. Love you all still over there in HI and miss you. Go Coast Guard!!!!!!

I serve in the USCG `77 through `83, flt mech/rescue swimmer in the HH52A. I flew with my freind Buzz Johnson and had known Dave Thompson (Molokai incident) I was a polar operations aircrew for the majority of my tour. Two hurricane evacs in the gulf, SAR out of all the other stations. We had to go out in the worst conditions, do our best to save lives and property, and then get back to the air sta sometimes on JP5 fumes. I feel the sadness and loss. Godspeed to the crew out of Barbers Pt. Semper Paratus
