Supposedly a "racist" symbol. Maybe to some. Not to most. I wear my beautiful 18k gold Celtic cross proudly. It represents half of my heritage - my family. Racism is a character flaw, not jewelry.

I can see how these things are Racist to a Black person but can you see why they may not be to everyone? If you think everyone who was against the MLK holiday is a racist you are very mistaken.
You are right, I never gave the Confederate flag much thought. I am not a history buff. I am not black. I am a native of California - not one of the slave states. I understand why you see the flying of the Confederate flag, a symbol of the slave holding elite, as Racist. In California, the confederate flag has always been a symbol the club flag for the "skin heads."
However, from what I have read, many people in the south consider it an important part of their history - I don't claim to know why. Heck, I never even heard of Jim Crow until this forum.
You have to realize that not everyone shares your view of the world. We do not share common interest or experiences. That's what I like about forums - they give each of us a glimpse at the "other side" and we can all learn something if we keep an open mind.
Just like me, I doubt McCain was fully aware of the depth of the hatred for the Confederate flag when he originally failed to take a stand in South Carolina. Just like me, McCain took a stand after further thought and sole searching. I think that he should be given credit for apologizing - not chastized.
Ignorance is no excuse. McCain is 72 years old. He lived during Jim Crow days, MLK,Malcolm X, klan bombing of the church killing the 4 girls.

How would you feel about Germany flying the swatza flag over government buildings? We can learn from Germany.

Swatzka flags don't affect me directly but I sure know what it means if Germany decided to fly it over thier government buildings as McCain thinks it's ok for the confederate flag.

The confederate flag is a treasonous flag.

Attention All:

Columnist Robert Elisberg of the Huffington Post has written an editorial regarding the Republican V.P. nominee Sarah Palin entitled -

The Worst Vice-Presidential Candidate in U.S. History:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/robert-j-elisbe...

"Sarah Palin has been governor of Alaska for just a bit over 18 months. Alaska has a population of 683,000.(Though that doesn't include moose.) This would only make it the 17th most populous city in the United States. Just ahead of Fort Worth.

Before that, she was mayor of Wasilla, Alaska. Population 9,000. I know Republicans like to promote "small town values," but this is taking things to ridiculous extremes, don't you think? I'm from Glencoe, Illinois, population 8,762. It's so small it doesn't even have a mayor, it has an appointed village manager. I'm sure that Paul Harlow is doing wonderfully at his job in the village - but I don't expect that he sees himself as even wanting to be a heartbeat from the U.S. President in 18 months. You know what the top news story is on the Glencoe website? "Fire Hydrant Painting Underway." (To be fair, it's the #2 story. The top news is a clarification about displaying political signage.)"

"Because if the hope for John McCain is to get women to vote for him who otherwise supported Hillary Clinton - if anything could get Hillary Clinton campaigning in full force and fury...this is it. She likely would have campaigned hard, but it's in Hillary Clinton's best interest to be the leading voice for women, and the leading woman candidate for president in the future, so having another woman as the potential Vice President (and potential President) is a significant challenge to that. The Republicans just opened Pandora's Box and brought Hillary Clinton roaring to Barack Obama's side on the Democratic train. And Bill Clinton, too."

Hi Carol!

McCain is playing the voters cheap again by appointing a woman token for his VP. Most woman are smart and vote in the issues. Hillary Clinton's gender was a bonus not the reason for the vote.

McCain failed with his gas tax holiday scam. Clinton too. The voters did not fall for it. It won't work this time either.

REAL Americans? So those of us who are pro choice and NOT staunch Conservatives don't cut it I guess with you.
I DO LIKE Palin's reportedly tough stand on corruption though.
Pro-choice... a lie perpetrated on America for legalized murder and infanticide.
Actually, I was a dyed-in-the-wool dem most of my life. Bill Clinton changed all that, although that's about the time I became aware of the fact that the moral fiber of the liberals in this country pretty much reflected those of a feral cat. But then even a cat will keep it's own kittens.

OBAMA CAUGHT IN ANOTHER LIE ABOUT HIS SUPPORT FOR THE KILLING OF LIVE BABIES WHO SURVIVE A FAILED ABORTION ATTEMPT

Team Obama acknowledges lie Obama told during warren debate.

The Barack Obama campaign has acknowledged that Obama himself lied about the bill he torpedoed in 2003 that would have required medical providers to give normal medical attention to infants born alive during an abortion. The admission comes with a new spin, as the campaign finally admits that the bill Obama defeated in committee was all but identical to the federal law that passed the Senate unanimously in 2002:

Indeed, Mr. Obama appeared to misstate his position in the CBN interview on Saturday when he said the federal version he supported “was not the bill that was presented at the state level.”

His campaign yesterday acknowledged that he had voted against an identical bill in the state Senate, and a spokesman, Hari Sevugan, said the senator and other lawmakers had concerns that even as worded, the legislation could have undermined existing Illinois abortion law. Those concerns did not exist for the federal bill, because there is no federal abortion law.

Told of the campaign's explanation, the legislative director of the National Right to Life Committee, Douglas Johnson, was dubious. "These are newly manufactured and highly implausible excuses," he said. "There is no way that the bill would have had any effect on any method of abortion." Mr. Johnson said the version Mr. Obama voted down clearly applied only to fetuses that emerged from the womb alive.

In 2005, the campaign noted, a “Born Alive” bill passed the Illinois Legislature after another clause had been added that explicitly stated that the legislation would have no effect on existing state abortion laws.
In addition to the outrage from abortion opponents, a five-minute YouTube video now making the rounds highlights Mr. Obama's opposition to the legislation. The clip, which has been viewed more than 230,000 times, features a testimonial from Jill Stanek, a former nurse who spearheaded the push for the bill in Illinois after witnessing a live infant discarded and left to die at the hospital where she worked. Ms. Stanek appeared at the White House ceremony in 2002 when President Bush signed the federal bill into law.
The McCain campaign yesterday added its voice to the criticism of Mr. Obama. "Americans can differ on the issue of abortion, but Senator Obama's extreme record on this issue and his willingness to misrepresent that record should concern any American who believes that we should be working towards a society where there are fewer abortions, not more," a spokesman for Senator McCain, Brian Rogers, said.

As the desperation thickens
Or is it sickens
PS I wouldn't wake that woman up at 3AM!
She sure as shyzer will draw a shotgun
Before her feet hit the floor
And they can say allah
Oh, is that politically "incorrect"
Oh Well, Deal With It ... Sad Sorrow Pathetic Pitiful Whining Liberal Leftist Lunatic Loons.

Can only speak for myself
I don't double team
That's your job
And your associates
Stop stiring up trouble
Mind your business
Stick to your own affairs
And grow up
Turning this board into a whine and gossip
"broads" club
But you're even too immature to be qualified as a broad

I did it for you.
I didn't accuse.
I simply pointed out the obvious, truth.
Keep your balance, while you still have some credibility on this post.

And about being outnumbered:
1) I am never outnumbered. I have my own voice.
I can and prefer to speak for myself.
I don't need back up or back bone.
And don't need any body to speak for me or "fight my battles" or "defend my arguments".

2) Which is why I don't participate in the immaturity of mob mentality. I can hold my own while staying above the fray.

3) And I find 3rd party dialogue, triangulation, to be a cowardly form of indirect dialogue.

4) I don't view this forum as the "us" against the "we" ... Or the "they" against the "them" ...
Though I realize there are some people on this forum who do.
Or Whatever!

I freely acknowledge there have been times when 'our side' has righteously swarmed Rochelle/Denise.

I am seriously considering responding to her DIRECTLY again. I've let her 'really nasty' comments to me slide for too long.

It's so easy to have a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent, though. SO easy. I like a challenge. She offers NONE.

BUT...the nastiness needs to be reciprocated.
